Bequest helps provide for future of Thame Youth Memorial Garden

A family from Chinnor have passed on a £2000 donation to the Thame Youth Memorial, a partnership between Thame Youth Memorial Trust & Thame Town Council, to support those in Thame and surrounding villages affected by the loss of a young person.

Lord Williams Upper School student Tom Martin, remembered within the Garden, died in 2004 and the donation comes from the estate of his Grandmother, Marigold Oxlade, also known as Marie. Tom’s parents Liz and Chris, said of the bequest, that “Mum did this for her Grandson as her heart was broken when he died”.

Trustee Peter Butt explained that “sadly we know that there will be more young people remembered within the garden in the future, the generosity of Marigold and her family helps provide for that- the Trust has minimal costs other than the engraving of memorial plaques as we receive so much volunteer support from involved families, friends and the team that helped construct the garden”.

Liz added her thanks to all involved “for the wonderful thing they have done for us and our precious Tom and for all the other young people whose lives have been stolen from them and their families”.

An information point has been approved for installation within the garden space, directing those in need of grief support to the thameyouthmemorial.org website, which is being updated throughout May and with guidance from seesaw.org.uk , an Oxford based child grief support charity.
